The racers were chomping at
the bit to get a chance to compete for top honors as Dawson County
Raceway in Lexington, Nebraska held double features on Sunday, as a
result of severe weather halting earlier scheduled IMCA racing
The veteran trio of Chad
Dolan of Gibbon, Nebraska; Mike Nichols of Harlan, Iowa; and Jason
Wilkinson of Neligh, Nebraska each picked up a pair of victories in
their respective divisions on Sunday. Joining the trio on the podium
in Feature makeup races were David Murray Jr. of Oberlin, Kansas and
Grand Island, Nebraska’s David Dembowski.
Racing deep into the night
was the name of the game for Jeremy Frenier to lead the most
important lap of the night in the IMCA Modified Feature. Frenier of
Ft. Morgan, Colorado drove past Jeremy Herbst on the final lap to
claim the victory, after Herbst had led since the initial drop of the
green flag. Herbst recovered quite nicely and finished second overall
in the feature event. Conquering the dry slick race track to earn
show honors from his third row starting position in the feature was
Cozad, Nebraska hotshoe Cale Osborn. Rounding out your top five was
Colton Osborn of Cozad and Jay Steffens of North Platte, Nebraska in
fourth and fifth place, respectively.
Wasting no time at all to
get to the front, Chad Dolan of Gibbon worked the cushion and inside
berm to near perfection to garner the lead from his fifth row
starting position on lap six and never looked back in taking home the
IMCA Northern Sport Modified Feature. Making an outstanding first
impression during his debut of the 2013 season at Dawson County
Raceway was Kyle Prauner of Battle Creek, Nebraska in second place
overall. Veteran racer Bryan Herrick of Curtis, Nebraska tamed the
oval in Lexington to earn third place accolades. Dean Wilkinson of
Oakdale, Nebraska finished fourth after leading the initial five laps
of the main event. Denny Egge of Kearney rounded out your top five
No stranger to the winners
circle at Dawson County Raceway, Mike Nichols of Harlan, Iowa drove
away with the win in the IMCA Stock Car feature. Nichols piloted his
new hot rod to the front on the fifth lap and never relinquished the
lead. Coming from the middle of the pack, Jason Rogers of Selden,
Kansas was able to work the wheel and gas pedal to conquer the dry
slick track to finish second overall from his sixth row starting
position. Maywood, Nebraska’s Casey Werkmeister collected show
honors for his efforts. Coming from deep in the field of competitors
Casey Woken of Ogallala, Nebraska and Jeff Whiting of Gothenburg were
in fourth and fifth position when the final checkered flags were
It was easier said than
done, as Jason Wilkinson of Neligh was able to garner the lead on lap
ten and lead the final five circuits to take the checkered flag in
the IMCA Hobby Stock division. Pacing the field from the onset was
Sal Hernandez of Columbus, Nebraska. Hernandez was the leader until
lap ten before relinquishing the point to Wilkinson. Sal recovered
quite nicely to earn runner-up accolades. Working his way through the
carnage and mishaps that occurred throughout the course of the
feature Travis Kernick of Kearney, Nebraska finished third overall
after starting the event in the ninth row. Wilcox wheelman Anthony
Martin and Bertrand’s Ryan Gardine earned podium finishes in fourth
and fifth place overall.
Making a stellar debut at
Dawson County Raceway, Matt Ford of Grand Island took his Dodge Neon
to the winners circle in the IMCA Sport Compacts Feature. Ford took
the point on the fourth lap of the main event and never looked back.
In his Yellow Rose, David Dembowski of Grand Island finished second
after leading lap three. Rookie contender Jacob Olmstead of Overton,
Nebraska was third overall after leading the first two laps of the

Dawson County Raceway on Sunday, July 14th with IMCA sanctioned
Modifieds, Northern Sport Mods, Stock Cars, Hobby Stocks and the
visiting URSS Sprint Cars competing for top honors.
